Rocchetta Mattei Castle

The Rocchetta Mattei is a unique castle with beautiful sculptures and a fusion of Gothic and Moorish architectural styles.

About

The ruins of the Savignano Fortress laid the foundation for Cesare Mattei to build the small fortress of Mattei in 1850. Mattei was born into a wealthy family, but money could not save his mother. Her death lead him to study science and new medicine. When he purchased the ruins, he oversaw the construction, which included an intricate layout, spiral staircases and towers, and black and white striped designs. Mattei built the Rocchetta to focus on his work. The Rocchetta Mattei was built to study Electro-Homoeopathy, a type of medicine that could heal man from all diseases using natural herbs. Enter the living room of peace and admire all the exquisite charms in Mattei’s design.
